Restrictions on Functioning of Courts in India

As an important measure of avoiding large gatherings in view of the coronavirus outbreak, and following the Supreme Court’s decision to hear only urgent matters[1], the National Company Law Tribunals (NCLTs)[2] and most of the High Courts across India have limited their functions as well.

Detailed notification of the respective courts can be accessed below:

  6. Madhya Pradesh
  7. Orissa
  8. Punjab and Haryana. Similar limitations have been placed on District courts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Relaxation in compliance with requirements pertaining to AIFs and VCFs

A need was felt to extend the due date for regulatory filings for Alternate Investment Funds (“ AIFs”) and Venture Capital Funds (“ VCFs ”), as a result of the recent market events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the Securities Exchange Board of India (“SEBI”) on 30 March 2020, vide circular No. SEBI/HO/IMD/DF1/CIR/P/2020/58, issued a relaxation in complying with the requirements pertaining to AIFs and VCF .

Unlock 5.0: Ministry of Home Affairs Guidelines

Lockdown measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 has been in force in the country since 24 March 2020. On 30 May 2020, pursuant to the direction of the National Disaster Management Authority under Section 6(2)(i) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Ministry of Home Affairs ( MHA ) issued an  order  enumerating the guidelines for phased re-opening of activities which were prohibited during the lockdown in areas outside the designated containment zones, as  Unlockdown 1 . This order was to remain in force up to 30 June 2020. On 29 June 2020, with a view to re-open more activities in the country, in a calibrated manner, in areas outside containment zones, the MHA issued detailed  guidelines  on  Unlockdown 2 .
